I'm playing a game with some other Harry Potter fans involving casting ourselves in assorted literature. The gang in question has eleven members, so some literature is out of the question due to sheer shortage. But I think we can pull off Hamlet if we double up a few roles.
The question is, which to double? Right now I'm tentatively doubling Hamlet Sr. and Claudius (yeah, everybody's done that and I kind of like the effect), but I'm also experimenting with the idea of trebling the Player King, the gravedigger and Fortinbras.
Here's my reasoning: these characters reflect a continuum of Hamlet's experience of leadership. The Player King is how Hamlet perceived his father; the gravedigger challenges Hamlet's view of himself and of the procession of humanity in the present; and Fortinbras is the leadership future.
Valid? Invalid? Suggestions?
