I was browsing the web and came across an interesting DVD at Amazon.Com titled Silent Shakespeare. It is a collection of silent films made of Shakespeare's plays. It sounds interesting and the price is 26.99 U.S plus S&H. (I have no finanicial interest in this). I haven't ordered it yet, but I may. Does anyone have this DVD and can it be recommended ?

I have the vhs of this. For someone interested in performance styles of yesteryear it is excellent. The tape includes clips of various lengths of a variety of actors ranging in skill level. I can hardly watch the whole thing at the same time and may have to be taken in small doses. I would recommend it.

I once saw a silent of Coriolanus. It was along time ago. The story came across very clearly in spite of the silence. The actors conveyed so much that little was missing from my understanding when I first read the play. I was wondering if this particular play was represented on the DVD or VHS that you've seen.

I'm going to have another look at this tape. Coriolanus is not on the box info, but I'll have a look. It does have a 1908 version of The Tempest! And Beerbohm Tree doing King John.
