I haven't the foggiest about the years of release, but here they are:
The Godfather The Godfather II Apocalypse Now Stealing Beauty Regeneration The Discovery of Heaven Yes, The Big Lebowski Yes, Moulin Rouge Pulp Fiction (why not?)
I do believe I could go on and on.

That Laputa film does sound like it was partially inspired by Gulliver's travels. It's not exactly the same, but there do seem to be similarities.
I heard the story about the Lion King being Japanese, but it also is reasonably close to Hamlet.

...with just a hint of Oedipus Rex Man, if Hamet had ever broken out into "I Just Can't Wait to be King"...!

Would "Hakuna Matata" be the Lion King equivalent of Hamlet' famous procrastination? ;D

It's terrifying how acurate that analogy is!
Hmmm...but would the hyenas be Rosencrantz and Guildenstern? ;D

Has anyone seen 'Irréversible' yet? It's the Gaspard Noé film that caused so much commotion at the Cannes film festival. I saw it last week and it's brilliant as well as disgusting. Some scenes are incredibly violent and I would understand if people hate the film because of that, but at the same time, it's what makes 'Irréversible' so great. It really gets to you. 'Only' one person gets killed (as opposed to most other films in which many more people die most of the time) but the way he gets killed... it's awful, but at least you think about it. It's REALLY shocking. And I think that's a good thing; it's shouldn't be normal that we watch hundreds and hundreds of killings a year without even moving a muscle. This film cganges you.

[glow=red,2,300] I watched 'O brother where art thou' again last night... the Coen brothers can do no wrong in my eyes... and its an interesting pastiche of Homers Odyssey [/glow]

Still need to see that one, as well as The Man Who Wasn't There! I love the Cohen Brothers for The Big Lebowski, Barton Fink, and the first 10 mins. of Miller's Crossing. Fargo, Raising Arizona, and Blood Simple were okay, but nowhere near as perfect. I saw a trailor about a year ago for a film they were going to do about a wrestler. I thought it was going to be called The Naked Man or something. Is that what The Man Who Wasn't There was, or is this something else?

Moulin Rouge? Oh please!
It was a nice idea, I suppose, but the execution was horrendous!
Box office sucess would say otherwise, and I think it's lovely they're reviving the musical, and the songs are quite catchy (Although I find it disturbing that the only words of French the average american teen knows are "chocolat" and "Voulez vous coucher avec moi ce soir") But a classic? Surely not!

You're entitled (and encouraged) to express your opinion and to disagree, Juliet, but please keep it friendly. I wouldn't want anyone's feelings to be hurt by misconstruing your meaning.
Thanks!

Let me apolgize, shaxper and everyone else. That was very rude of me, and I didn't mean for it to be so. I don't like Moulin Rouge very much, but you may certainly adore it and that's fine! I got a little carried away, and Moulin Rouge is entitled to be a modern classic as much as anything esle. Sorry.

Not a problem, Juliet. I suspected you were just being playful about your opinions. I'm glad you feel so comfortable here. i was just concerned that your comment could have been construed as insulting. I'm sure you didn't mean it that way.
