Hey folks!
I'm considering adding some sort of slogan below the "The Boar's Head Tavern" banner on the main page; something that will give some hint of what the page is about. Desdemona has already kindly leant me her "Shakespeare" font for the job. Now I just need to know what to write. Perhaps a Shakespeare (or other Renaissance dramatist) quote would be in order, but nothing good comes to mind.
Any ideas?

There is a famous story that comes from Thomas Fuller's History of the Wothies of England. It's probably not a true story but it certainly part of literary tradition. It tells of sessions of the combat of wit between Ben Jonson and Master Shakespeare. The tale suggests that Jonson was higher in learning but WS was more supplied with a ready wit, like an English man-of-war. WS "could turn with all tides, tack about and take advantage of all winds, by the quickness of his wet and invention."
Later, the story seems to have been embellished by the addition of Raleigh, Donne, Beaumont and others, doing like wit combat at the Mermaid Tavern. This is again probably not possible, but it doesn't matter. I suggest that we draw from this tradition for a slogan. "Turning with all tides," and/or, "Taking advantage of all winds." For each of these I thought the present participle a good substitute.
We are wit combatants in a digital tavern.

Heheh. I like it! What does everyone else think?
Of course, we might have to actually live up to the slogan and improve our wits ;D

Of course, we might have to actually live up to the slogan and improve our wits ;D Hmmm... improve our wits. Isn't wit a euphemism for sexual organs? Hey, my wit doesn't need improving!

Ganymede, I hate to be the one to have to explain this to you, but men's clothing and a forest free from the tyranny of an evil duke are not all that it takes

"Love and a bit with a dog" -- wait, no, that was all the second-class comedies.
"You can get anything you want" -- nope, that was Alice's Restaurant.
A favourite Shakespeare troupe who likes to perform au naturel -- oaugh! I mean in the round and with no special lighting tricks -- "We do it with the lights on." (Shenandoah Shakespeare Express)
How about... "M.O.A.I."? You could come up with infinite numbers of clever things that it stood for and each regular could tell newcomers a different meaning.... "Why yes, my dear newcomer, it stands for "Moneylenders Ostensibly Appearing Intelligent." "Oh nonono, it means "Masquerade Of Acronymic Incompetents!"
Mmm, that's too mean. I'm going to flip through my Bev4ed here and see if I can find some catchy lines about alcohol for you.
