I used to have the album. If I can find it, and find someone with a turntable (it's on vinyl, and I'm CD-only now (down, Ganymede! ;)) I could send you a tape. I'll see what I can do, as it's so obscure that I'll be very impressed if it's out there.

Well I won't be moved into my new apartment for at least another day, but once there I'll be sure to surf the web in search of an mp3 file of the song you've mentioned. If I have any luck (stranger things have been found out there) I will be sure to let you know. Thanks for your offer, by the way!

I knew there was something else and it just occured to me. Elivis Costello and The Brodsky Quartet has an album called The Juliet Letters. The liner notes tell of a Veronese academic who began replying to letters addressed to Juliet Capulet. I suppose there must be a need to communicate to somebody who they think will understand even if that person is a dead fictional character. I'm not totally clear whether these are actual letters or extrapolations by Costello. It's worth a listen to even though it might not be the type of music you want to include in the collection. The music has a rock feel but is also definately a classical group.

Interesting, especially for Elvis Costello. I'll definately look. Thanks!

I hadn't come across the Costello album, which I shall definitely look into.
I don't know if, or how much, this was his inspiration, but I do remember hearing on a TV programme about Verona that many people, mostly teenagers, write to Juliet about their problems, particularly romantic ones. I suppose it's similar to writing to Sherlock Holmes which people do - the bank whose offices cover 221b Baker Street employs someone just to answer those letters.
I found it rather touching.

I think I've heard of people doing that for Abelard and Eloise as well. Touching idea, really.

Hi,
I am having a birthday party for my ten year old - "Shakespeare's Idiots" is the theme. He's written a play in which all the characters are idiot characters from the Shakespeare plays he knows. Its really funny. Kids will come, rehearse the play and enact it for their parents at pick-up time.

So anyway, I was wanting to make a cd of songs somehow related to Shakespeare, and only have Dire Straits' Romeo and Juliet and The Smiths' Shakepeares' Sister. I was google-surfing for ideas when I came upon your discussion.

How far did you get compiling this music? Do you have a cd yet? I would LOVE a cd with all these songs on it. Can anyone help?????
